New York roll is no doubt a very famous American style sushi roll. This recipe is so easy to make yourself! The ingredients are simple so you can easily fulfil your sushi craving as appetizer or dinner.

Sushi Rice Ingredients

  • 2 cups white rice cooked small or medium-grain
  • 3 cups water
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp salt

New York Roll

  • 6 oz cooked shrimp
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Nori seaweed paper
  • Pickled ginger Optional
  • 1 tsp mayonnaise Optional
  • ½ tsp sriracha Optional
  • soy sauce Optional

Equipment

  • Bamboo sushi rolling mat

Method
 

  1. Place down the bamboo sushi rolling mat on a cutting board.
  2. Take the half nori sheet and place it on the bamboo rolling mat.
  3. Start placing your cooked rice on a nori sheet by using soft and wet hands to avoid sticking.
  4. Move your nori sheet close to the bottom edge of the bamboo mat. It should be half-inch away from the bottom.
  5. Sprinkle sesame seeds on the rice layered onto the nori sheet.
  6. Flip the nori sheet, so the rice side goes down against the bamboo mat.
  7. Cut the avocado, cucumber, and shrimp into slices.
  8. Now place avocado, cucumber, and shrimp on the nori sheet. The placement of the ingredients in a row line.
  9. Grab the bamboo sushi mat and nori with your thumb.
  10. Grab the bamboo sushi mat and nori with your thumb.
  11. Lift the edge and start rolling both slowly with your fingers by giving some gentle push.
  12. Keep tight and keep rolling until the roll is done and the edges mix.
  13. If you want, you can add some extra toppings.
  14. Cut it with a sharp knife and make small segments.
  15. Serve with soy sauce, sriracha or mayonnaise, and enjoy eating New York roll.
