Alaska Roll Sushi :

  • 1 Sheet Nori
  • 2-3 slices cucumber cut into matchsticks
  • 2-3 slices avocado
  • 6 oz/6 thin slices Sushi-Grade Salmon
  • ¼ cup imitation crab meat or real Alaskan crab meat
  • pickled ginger optional
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise optional
  • ½ tsp sriracha optional
  • wasabi optional

Sauces and Topping (Optional):

  • spicy sriracha mayo
  • eel sauce
  • bang bang sauce
  • white or black sesame seeds
  • Tobiko Sauce / Masago Sauce

Equipment

  • Bamboo sushi rolling mat
  • Cutting board and a sharp knife

Method

Making of Sushi Rice:
  1. First rinse the rice well with clean water so there is no starch remaining. Shake off excess water.
  2. Take a saucepan and fill it with water.
  3. Add 1 tablespoon of salt, mix well and then pour the washed rise into the saucepan. You can also use an instant pot instead of a saucepan.
  4. Cook the rice for 12 to 15 min on a medium high heat. Make sure to cover it while cooking. If you’re using an instant pot, then set it on high pressure for 6 to 8 min (with full natural release).
  5. After the rice is cooked, shift to a bowl and let it cool down.
  6. Add the sushi vinegar to the rice and mix well.
Preparation of Spicy Crab Mix:
  1. Shred imitation crab meat or Alaskan crab meat.
  2. Add mayonnaise and sriracha and mix imitation crab meat or Alaskan crab meat
Make Alaska Sushi Rolls:
  1. Lay down the bamboo sushi rolling mat.
  2. Take the half nori sheet and place it on the bamboo mat.
  3. Grab the cooked rice and spread gently on the nori sheet.
  4. Make a medium thick layer of the rice by using soft hands. Use wet hands to avoid sticking.
  5. It's time to flip the nori sheet. Once you flip, the nori sheet will face up and the rice side goes down against the bamboo mat.
  6. Now place the crab mixture, a row of cucumber and avocado slices on the nori sheet. The placement of the ingredients should be 1 inch away from the bottom. Be careful to not add many because it will make it hard for sushi to close well.
  7. Grab the bamboo sushi mat and nori with your thumb. Lift the edge up and start rolling both slowly with your fingers by giving some gentle push.
  8. Keep tight and keep rolling until the edges mix with each other.
  9. The sushi with rolled rice is ready for the topping.
  10. Sprinkle the sesame seed on sushi rolls and top with thin salmon slices.
  11. Roll the bamboo mat again and shape Alaska roll sushi.
  12. Cut into small segments, serve and enjoy eating Alaska roll sushi.
